Dogworks Service Dogs

Looking for a dog?

We train for field, service, and familes. Connect with us so we can get to know you and your dog's specific needs.

Diabetes Alert Dogs

Diabetes Alert Dogs (DADs) are trained to alert to the high and low changes in your blood glucose level. They are not a replacement for any equipment or protocols being used by you. In general, the nose of a dog is thousands of times more powerful than any human. Diabetes alert dogs can smell your blood sugar dropping or spiking out of range and alert you, the owner/handler, in advance of a crisis. Our findings, with DADs and their owners, have provided us with important feedback and that is the 'alert' is often significantly in advance of glucometer reading/testing. DADs are trained to 'alert' their you to the onset of this change and to keep alerting you (or a caregiver if the diabetic is a child) until the condition is corrected or until you receive the help you need.

Looking for our Service Dog Application?

Our Training Programs

Jody Filonovich is the head of our Service Dog Training Program. These training programs range from 18-24 months. During this time, we work one-on-one with you to ensure that your dog has all of the training needed to function as a service dog and you are set up for success.

Our Process and Methods

This includes the scent detection training (several hundred hours of work) in which we exclusively use your scent samples to individualize the training of the dog for you.

Additional Information

In addition to the scent detection training, your DAD will be guided through a rigorous manners and obedience regimen - to be the best they can be while being your working dog and companion. Our methods involve positive reinforcement for a lifelong, solid foundation for each dog.

At Dogworks, we are dedicated to harnessing the unique strengths of our canine partners and producing an elite group of scent-detection dogs for public safety and health. Our Service Dogs are capable of intelligent work that can save lives.

A completely trained dog is ready to take the IACP certification test and function as a full access service dog. A service dog can accompany you anywhere that you would go in public, in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act.

Re"training" & Doggy Bootcamp

Basics

Correctional Behavior

Correctional Behavior

Not looking for intensive training, but want to touch up on basic training like sit, stay, down, place, crate training, and more? Basic retraining is good for dogs who used to know the basics, but overtime need more structure.

Correctional Behavior

Correctional Behavior

Correctional Behavior

Has your dog gotten into some troublesome habbits, but they know basic training tasks? Correcitonal training helps with pesky problems like loose leash walking, polite greetings, and more.

Tasks

Correctional Behavior

Tasks

Task training is for service dogs and bird dogs that need retraining on their daily tasks like diabetes alert tasks and scent work.

What to expect

All dogs training to become a certified service dog come to life with us until they graduate from the program. While living here they work on daily scent work, socialization, public acess, and much more. It is best to start training as young as possible. We typically choose a puppy for a specific person's needs, instead of choosing a puppy that may not do best at the job assigned and needs of that person.

Once your dog has graduated and gets their certification, they come home with you. They need to be working and continuing their tasks overtime or they may need to come in for "Re training" to exercise their skills. You can find more on this below.
